My Dahon Mu SL (SL is for super light, it's only 19 lbs, same as my road bike) is my favourite of all my bikes, for commuting and errands across town. A folding bike would easily work for extended rides out in the countryside, with smooth high-pressure tires. No doubt if you did a lot of riding with a riding club you might consider a dedicated road bike (as your second bike!) Folders are great for travelling, once you get to your destination city you have a way to get around and explore. You so much more from a bike! You have to experiment until you find a saddle you like. The bicycle company's women-specific ones are very good, don't get one too wide, soft and squishy, a firmer one that supports your pelvic bones is more comfortable in the run. Riding position makes a big difference on rides. A more vertical position puts your whole weight down your straight spine into the pelvis and through the seat. A forward position (but not so much that you feel you are supporting yourself with your hands) puts your spine in a better S-curve and lets you transfer more weight through your legs as you pedal. And save your knees by putting your seat high enough to almost straighten your leg at the furthest extension of the pedals. With the seat too low your knees are always grinding in a bent position which is bad. Pedal faster (higher RPMs) with lighter force in a lower gear ,to make it easy on your knees too. You'll get the of it with some experience. Allow time to get used to it and be sensitive to what your body tells you.
